Sixth Grade Bash
Hello Sixth Grade Families!
Our annual Sixth Grade Bash (fun for sixth graders only) is this Friday, September 18th from 3:00-4:15 PM. We will celebrate the start of the school year on our campus and MPR with games and also food should your student wish to buy something.
The $5.00 tickets will be on sale between September 14-17 on Future Fund, or your student can come to the Leadership room (PT-3) at lunch.

The IHMS Education Fund is $17,365 short of its $210,365 goal, and the IHMS PTA is $2,930 short of its $10,000 goal.
Your support helps fund the staffing, programs, student activities, enrichment opportunities, and community experiences our Jaguars enjoy. Registering and donating now allows us to plan for these opportunities instead of scrambling later—or missing out altogether.

Student Auditions for Beauty and The Beast Jr.
Auditions will be held for our annual IHMS musical, Beauty and The Beast Jr. on Monday, September 21st, Thursday, September 24th and Friday, September 25th.
Any student may audition to be in the show by signing up for an audition appointment, and submitting an audition form. Audition Forms are due Thursday September 17 by 7:00 PM.

Paint a Gold Pumpkin for Childhood Cancer Research!
In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Iron Horse is teaming up with the Little Hero Foundation for a Gold Pumpkin Painting Party! For every pumpkin decorated, the foundation will donate $1 to pediatric cancer research.
Painting parties will be held during Student Support on October 14, 15, 28, and 29. Students may bring a mini pumpkin or purchase one for $5.
Student sign-ups will open in InfiniteCampus the Friday before each painting event.

The Reflections Art Contest is here!
The Reflections Art Contest is a National PTA program that lets students express their creativity through art!
This year's theme is "What My Culture Means to Me." Students can enter original work in one (or more!) of these categories: - Dance Choreography
- Film Production
- Literature
- Music Composition
- Photography
- Visual Arts
The Reflections Art Program is open to ALL students. The National PTA Accessible Arts division is an option for students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 to have the opportunity and accommodations they may need in order to participate fully in the program. The division offers modified rules and guidelines to ensure that every student has the chance to be part of the National PTA Reflections program.
All grade levels at Iron Horse are welcome to participate. Each entry must be an original creation inspired by the theme, and should include a title and a short artist statement (10–100 words).

PTA/PTSA Newsletter Lists Updated this Weekend
The PTA newsletter lists on our new Mailsoftly platform were updated this weekend to include parents and staff currently associated with a school site. Because of the intricacies of how the update needed to be conducted, some people may find that their preferences were re-enabled for lists they no longer wish to receive newsletters from. Please take a moment to click on the Manage your preferences link in the footer at the very bottom of any of the PTA/PTSA--published emails you receive via the Mailsoftly platform.
The following PTA/PTSAs are not using the Mailsoftly platform this year: Alamo, Bella Vista, Coyote Creek, Creekside, Golden View, Hidden Hills, Montevideo, and Rancho Romero. All parents and staff (districtwide) are included on the SRV Council PTA list, but if they’ve opted out of this list they will not receive the Council’s monthly newsletter or occasional other communications. To opt-in, just complete the Opt-in/Preference Form and select the lists you’d like to receive communications from.

Looking for a way to support our students and staff? Iron Horse currently needs volunteers in two areas:
Library Support: Help shelve and check books in and out, assist students in locating materials, and keep the library organized and welcoming. Lunch Supervision: Provide an additional adult presence to help keep lunchtime safe, organized, and enjoyable for everyone.
All volunteers must be fully approved through Be A Mentor before signing up.
Whether you can volunteer regularly or occasionally, your time makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for supporting our Iron Horse community!

Upcoming SRVUSD Board of Education Election and Candidate Forum for Area 5 Candidates on October 8th
The SRVUSD Board of Education Trustee seats for Areas 1, 4, and 5 are open for election this November. The candidates for Areas 1 (Amanda Butland) and Area 4 (Susanna Ordway - incumbent) are unopposed, so their contests will not be on the ballot, and they both will be seated at the Board's organizational meeting in December. For Area 5, there are two candidates: Joel Woods and Rachel Hurd (incumbent).
Not sure which Area you live in? See the San Ramon Valley Unified 2022-2030 Trustee Election Area Interactive Map. After selecting the box in the lower left corner of the landing page and hitting OK. Enter your address to determine which trustee area you reside in.

Nominate a Student for Innovation Tri-Valley 2026 DreamMakers and RiskTakers Awards
Innovation Tri-Valley (ITV) Leadership Group is searching for students who are DreamMakers and RiskTakers. The student recipients of the annual DreamMakers and RiskTaker Awards are selected by the ITV Education and Workforce Development Committee with final approval of the President or Superintendent of each host educational organization based on common criteria.
Characteristics of DreamMakers and RiskTakers: - They have accomplished something important and made an impact with a focus on Innovation (i.e. Technical Innovations, Inventions, Social Innovations, Artistic creations or accomplishments); and
- They have grit – maybe they are not an A student, but perhaps they have demonstrated resilience, courage, passion, creativity and/or innovation.
- Students with disabilities and students of all socio-economic backgrounds will be considered equally.
SUBMISSION PROCESS: Nominations can be made by individuals nominating themselves or educators/mentors/ parents/administrators nominating students. The Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group Selection Committee will review submissions and will present finalists to Superintendents, Principals, and Administrators of appropriate school districts for final selection. Nominated Students must be in good standing.
All nominations must be submitted with this form by Friday, September 25, 2026.

Upcoming Youth Heart Screening: Protecting Our Community’s Future
Join Us October 3 for Lifesaving Heart Health Checks
The Kyle J Taylor Foundation is proud to host a Youth Heart Screening event on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10 AM to 3 PM at San Ramon Valley High School. This screening is open to youth ages 12–25 and is designed to detect hidden heart conditions that standard well-child exams and sports physicals often miss. Register today!
Each screening takes just 45 minutes and includes a cardiac risk assessment, EKG, and a doctor review. The process is noninvasive and painless, making it easy for participants to safeguard their health. With 23,000 U.S. youth affected by Sudden Cardiac Arrest every year and 1 in 300 having an undetected heart condition, this event offers a vital opportunity to protect our young people.
The screening is a collaborative effort by SRVUSD, City of San Ramon, Town of Danville, San Ramon Fire Protection District, and Contra Costa County. Don’t miss this chance to take proactive steps for your child’s well-being—register today and help us build a healthier, safer community!
