Run for Education — Let’s Run Like Jaguars!
This year’s 43rd Annual Run for Education is extra special for our Jaguar community — Iron Horse Middle School is the host site!
Before race day, help us kick off the excitement with Run for Education Spirit Day on Thursday, September 3! Students and staff throughout SRVUSD are encouraged to wear their Run for Education shirts, medals, or favorite running attire to show their support.
Then join fellow Iron Horse students, families, staff, and community members on Sunday, October 11 for a morning of fun, fitness, and school spirit right here at IHMS! Choose from the 5K, 10K, 1.5 Mile Friendship Run, or Mini Run, then stick around to enjoy the Expo. Runners and walkers receive a shirt and medal, and student volunteers can earn hours toward leadership, Interact, and other service programs. Best of all, Run proceeds help support education right here at IHMS!
Never done a 5K? No problem! Walk the course, try the new 1.5 Mile course, or join the FREE SRVUSD Family Training Run on Thursday, September 10 at 5:45 PM at Sports Basement San Ramon. All paces and experience levels are welcome, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
Don’t wait to register — prices increase after September 14!
Can’t join us on race weekend? You can still support Iron Horse by registering as a Virtual Runner, sponsoring a friend, or pledging your support to one of our participating staff members, including Mr. Sprickman, Mrs. Keeler, or Ms. Norris.
Let’s show the San Ramon Valley just how much Jaguar pride we have and fill the course with Iron Horse runners! Whether you’re racing, walking, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, we’d love to see our community out in full force.

Back to School Night
It was wonderful seeing all of the parents and guardians of the IHMS students at Back to School Night on August 20th. If you missed it you can see the slides from the Principal meet and greet here.

Two School Site Council Members Needed
You can support our school as we work to set goals that will push us to improve outcomes for students. Your input and ideas will help us make decisions on what to focus on and how to spend our funding so that students get the maximum benefit. If you are interested in being on our School Site Council, please submit your name and a brief description of your interest and qualifications to mnorris@srvusd.net by Friday, September 4th. Meeting dates are as follows: Wednesdays 8:00-9:0 AM in the IHMS Library or virtually September 16, October 21, November 18, January 27, February 24, April 14

Homework Club
If your student would like a quiet place to get their homework done, they can come to Homework Club on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-3:40 pm.

Froyo Thursday!
Stop by the Menchie’s sales table in front of the traffic circle every Thursday after school and grab a treat! Yogurt is $5, boba drinks are $6, and toppings are $1 each (dairy-free/vegan options available). Cash only!
20% of all sales will be donated to support Iron Horse Middle School student activities.

Loaner Chromebook Procedures
Students must bring their Chromebooks to school every day (fully charged) - If a student forgets to bring their Chromebook to school, they must call home to request theirs be dropped off at school before they may check out a loaner. If a student repeatedly forgets to bring their Chromebook to school, they may receive detention.
- If a student is having technical issues with their Chromebook, they must submit an IT ticket before they may check out a loaner. Submit an IT ticket HERE

Forgotten Items
Students are to check in at the office during break or lunch if they discover that they have forgotten an item at home. - If a parent chooses to deliver forgotten items, they may be dropped off at the main office and placed on the “I forgot table” for their student to retrieve them.
- It is not school policy to deliver items or take messages to the classroom (unless it is an emergency) due to the potential disruption that may occur.
- The office cannot be responsible for items left at the front desk.

September 18th, 3:00-4:15. $5.00 tickets sold online and at lunch in front of PT-3 from 9/14-9/17. The waiver must be completed in order to attend.

CJSF Bulletin Announcement California Junior Scholarship Federation
Click HERE for the 2026-2027 Semester 1 application link (8th graders only). The link opens on Monday, August 24 at 8:30 a.m. and closes on Thursday, September 10 at 9:00pm. No late applications will be accepted.
7th graders can qualify after their first semester grades are posted. They may join in January during the Spring semester. 6th graders are not eligible for CJSF.

East Coast Trip for 8th Graders
Iron Horse 8th grade families!
We wanted to let everyone know that there are still a few spaces available on our Washington D.C. and New York east coast trip over the upcoming spring break, 2027. For any families who missed our initial informational meeting in April, we will be hosting a Zoom parent informational meeting on Tuesday, September 1st at 6:00 PM. Here is a link to that meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86249854229 We’d love for all interested families to attend but you do not need to attend in order to register (we will record the meeting for any families who are unable to attend). **Please note that if you have already registered, you do not need to attend.**

Volunteers Needed at Iron Horse!
Looking for a way to support our students and staff? Iron Horse currently needs volunteers in two areas:
Library Support: Help shelve and check books in and out, assist students in locating materials, and keep the library organized and welcoming. Lunch Supervision: Provide an additional adult presence to help keep lunchtime safe, organized, and enjoyable for everyone.
All volunteers must be fully approved through Be A Mentor before signing up.
Whether you can volunteer regularly or occasionally, your time makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for supporting our Iron Horse community!

Parcel Tax Oversight Committee Members Needed
SCHOOL DISTRICT SEEKS PARCEL TAX OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEMBERS: The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is seeking members for its Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.
The committee provides oversight for the Board of Education to ensure that the funds are spent as intended by the voters of the parcel tax. The committee will meet at least twice per year and report on an annual basis to the Board and community on how these funds have been spent. All meetings are open to the public.
Six members and one alternate will be appointed by the school board for a two-year term. They will not be compensated and will serve no more than two consecutive terms. Members shall reside within the boundaries of the SRVUSD and shall be registered voters.

Applications are due no later than 3:00 PM September 11, 2026.
The board will review qualified applicants, and recommendations/appointments will be made at the Board of Education meeting on October 13, 2026.

District Committee Applications - Now Open!
At SRVUSD, parent perspectives and community voices are essential to making thoughtful decisions that directly impact our students. To ensure our district continues to best serve our students, we invite you to apply to join a district committee for the 2026–2027 school year. Committees include Parcel Tax Oversight, Deep Learning, Arts Education, and many more. Committee application windows vary.

Nominate a Student for Innovation Tri-Valley 2026 DreamMakers and RiskTakers Awards
Innovation Tri-Valley (ITV) Leadership Group is searching for students who are DreamMakers and RiskTakers. The student recipients of the annual DreamMakers and RiskTaker Awards are selected by the ITV Education and Workforce Development Committee with final approval of the President or Superintendent of each host educational organization based on common criteria.
Characteristics of DreamMakers and RiskTakers: - They have accomplished something important and made an impact with a focus on Innovation (i.e. Technical Innovations, Inventions, Social Innovations, Artistic creations or accomplishments); and
- They have grit – maybe they are not an A student, but perhaps they have demonstrated resilience, courage, passion, creativity and/or innovation.
- Students with disabilities and students of all socio-economic backgrounds will be considered equally.
SUBMISSION PROCESS: Nominations can be made by individuals nominating themselves or educators/mentors/ parents/administrators nominating students. The Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group Selection Committee will review submissions and will present finalists to Superintendents, Principals, and Administrators of appropriate school districts for final selection. Nominated Students must be in good standing.
All nominations must be submitted with this form by Friday, September 25, 2026.

Heart Screening Clinic
The Citizen Corp Council (SRVUSD, Town of Danville, City of San Ramon, County and SRVFPD) is hosting a heart screening clinic on October 3rd at SRVHS. This is a great opportunity for all students, including student-athletes, to be screened for any heart conditions or abnormalities. The screening includes risk assessment, EKG, and doctor review. The cost is $10. See this flyer for details and registration.
